Worcester is located in Central Massachusetts, about an hour West of Boston. A 2006 estimate puts the population at 176,000 people.
The city encompasses a total area of 38.6 square miles (99.9 km²) including 1,200 acres of publicly owned land. The highlight of the public lands is Elm Park which was laid out by Frederick Olmsted (best known for his design of Central Park in New York City).
