Spencer Massachusetts
Spencer Ma is a town located near the center of the state. It was Incorporated in 1753 and split from the town of Leicester. The, then acting Governor, Spencer Phips, gave the town its name.
The town is also home to the Howe Family, a family of inventors, including Elias Howe, who perfected the lockstitch sewing machine. As of the 2000 census, there were 11.691 people living here. There are 34 square miles and town is roughly rectangular in shape.
The Spencer Fair, held over Labor Day weekend, is an attraction that hosts many exhibits, rides, shows, livestock, etc and has been going on for years and creates a Family Day adventure and is considered one of the best fairs in central Massachusetts. There are many waterfront homes in town due to the many lakes that are full recreation lakes and provide hours of fun for the families that live on them.
Spencer has a nice blent of housing wich includes single family, multifamily housing, farms and houses with acerage, condos and over 55 housing.
There was a Hotel Massasoit that was located in the center of town, but unfortunately burnt several years ago. There are several restaurants located in town as well. Also, St. Josephs Abbey is located here, the home of the famous Trappist Monks and their jelly’s, that are distributed all over the country.
The town is located 20 minutes from Worcester and about 45 minutes from Springfield. The major route that runs thru town is Route 9 and also Rt 49 to the South connects Sturbridge which has Rt 20 and the Mass Pike.
